Dokra metal craft is an age old tradition spread around the region where once Kalinga stood. The oldest dokra craft work discovered dates back to Mohenjo-daro.
This traditional metalcrafting technique is a lost wax casting method and is used with non-ferrous metals and alloys. Today the craft has been mostly forgotten, being kept alive by a few traditional artisans and some enthusiasts. The government of Odisha has been trying to revive this art but the work is slow going.
